The Covid 19 pandemic is just one more barrier for those fleeing hunger and poverty, war and torture. These people find in the Mediterranean Sea the only escape route to leave their countries behind. Meanwhile, the governments of the European Union continue to try to block this escape route, allowing hot returns by the so-called Libyan Coast Guard, and omitting their work to help people seeking a safe port on their journey.
Once again, the NGO Proactiva Open Arms prevented more than 300 people from disappearing in a sea, in which in just 9 months more than 1,300 people have lost their lives, and where more than 20,000 people have been intercepted and returned to the places where mafias do business with the need to escape from these people.
